What is AI Receptionist?

An AI receptionist is software that handles incoming calls and messages automatically — answering questions, booking appointments, and routing messages without a human operator.

An AI receptionist replaces or augments a traditional front-desk receptionist with software that uses natural-language AI (typically large language models like Claude or GPT-4) to understand customer requests and respond appropriately. For service businesses, this most commonly means picking up calls or text messages, asking what the customer needs, checking real-time appointment availability, and booking the slot — all in a natural conversation.
