What is SMS Booking?
SMS booking lets customers schedule appointments by text message, with AI or a human responding to confirm availability — no app to download, no web form to fill out.
In depth
SMS booking is the practice of taking appointments through text-message conversations instead of via web forms, calendar links (like Calendly), or phone calls. The customer texts the business number with what they need ("haircut tomorrow afternoon?") and gets a response that books the slot.
It converts dramatically better than link-based booking for service businesses because (1) it requires no app install or web navigation, (2) it works on every phone going back 20 years, (3) customers can ask follow-up questions naturally, and (4) it works when the customer is on the go (driving past your shop, in another appointment, in a meeting).
For it to work at scale without burning out the owner, the SMS conversations need to be handled by an AI receptionist — humans can't respond to 50+ booking texts per day, especially while also doing the work the business actually does.
Real examples
- 1.Barbershop: "Hey, can I get a fade tomorrow at 3?" → "Yes! Booked you with Marcus tomorrow at 3 PM."
- 2.Plumber: "Toilet won't flush, need someone today" → "I can have Tom out between 2-4 today, OK?" → "Yes please" → "Confirmed."
- 3.Spa: "Couples massage Sunday afternoon?" → "Yes — Sunday at 2 PM works, $180 total. Want to book it?" → "Yes" → "Booked."
